Lagos city’s population grows every hour as Nigerians from less industrialised regions seek jobs. And as the city grows, so does demand for housing increase.
So, the young lady Chioma has secured a job on the island, she is tasked with finding accommodation that will not swallow up her salary. She has become uncomfortable at her friend’s place she presently stays in Ikorodu. Cost of daily transport is giving her concern. She knew that finding an apartment to rent in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial centre would not be so easy especially when she has lower budget for her taste of apartment, but she was still unprepared for what came next. She could not afford renting an apartment on the island, her income doesn’t match it. She can only try mainland, a closer location at that, but the closer it is the higher the rent still… 😄
The 25-year-old began the journey to securing apartment, she met with obstacles at each step – from road side estate agent demanding cash for every viewing, despite it being illegal, to a landlord who asked for 18 months’ rent in advance, instead of the standard 12months.
Low and behold, she found an apartment, a two-bedroom apartment for 700,000 naira per annum…lol
